Machaneh Kadimah is LJY-Netzer’s biggest event of the year and has been filling up fast since the end of the largest Aviv in LJY-Netzer history.
This year Kadimah will be from the 10th to the 23rd of August
Kadimah brings together loads of young Liberal Jews from all over the UK and introduces them to a tsevet (staff) of over 40 passionate, enthusiastic and trained madrichim (youth leaders) who conjure up a two week programme of fun and engaging activates. We balance sports and games with creative prayer and informal education, have a trip off site and work round the clock to make this the best two weeks of summer!
Generations have been through Kadimah and come out the other side inspired and ready to be the next generation of Liberal Jewish leaders. Just look around your congregations to see what we mean! Ask anyone who’s been on Kadimah what they thought about it and you’ll get the same response: it was the best two weeks of their year.
Machaneh Kadimah is staffed by a team of enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced madrichim (leaders). These talented young people plan and deliver two weeks’ worth of magnificently creative activities and all are LJY-Netzer members who want to give to the class of 2013 what they experienced when they were on Kadimah as participants. They run sessions ranging from swimming to singing, from drama to den-building, from discussions about Israel to debates about Jewish identity, from friendship bracelet-making to football, and from dodgeball to discos. Working with them will be a resident lifeguard, who will make sure that swimming is available every day, a ‘Rosh Sports,’ who will be making sure that there is plenty of sporting opportunities each day, an Art Room Coordinator and a music coordinator. Overseeing the whole camp is the LJY-Netzer movement work team.
They are trained professionals employed by Liberal Judaism, all of whom have worked extensively with young people and have led multiple Kadimahs as well as other LJY-Netzer programmes. All staff members have been CRB-checked and trained before camp begins. There will be a ‘Resident Adviser,’ this year Rabbi Neil Janes who will be there to oversee and give guidance and support where needed. We have on site a professional medic and a dedicated welfare support officer, Rabbi Leah Jordan. We also receive guidance and training from the professionals at UJIA JLEC, the UK’s leading centre for Jewish informal education, and from the CST, who advise us on security matters, as well as the Liberal Judaism head office.
We are proud that Machaneh Kadimah is an inclusive environment where all participants can flourish, make friends and have fun. Whether this will be your first or your eighth Kadimah, we guarantee you’ll have the time of your life.
This year Machaneh Kadimah will again be at Sandroyd School near Salisbury. An old country manor set in beautiful grounds, it boasts rolling fields, fantastic sport facilities including an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, astroturf football pitce, a fully-equipped art room, space a-plenty for activities and comfortable dormitories.
Each age group has their own day off site as a chance to bond and have fun. Last year’s day trips included Monkey World, Splashdown Water Park and a trip to the beach. There is also a two-day hike with a night in a hostel for Yamim (school year 9).
This year Machaneh Kadimah will be starting at Kingston Liberal Synagogue for a family-orientated Shacharit (shabbat morning service) followed by a lunch after which the coaches will leave for Sandroyd School.
